Inquiring the LORD: The Old Testament Way verses the New

November 19, 2009

In the Old Testament our forefathers inquired of the LORD for guidance in all matters concerning their welfare. King David made inquires to the LORD on all matters of warfare. The LORD gave him guidance on matters such as whom to save and whom to slaughter in battle; what to recover from the spoil and what to destroy; how and when to attack and ensnare the enemies, etc.

Today, nonetheless, our LORD has not stopped guiding His people concerning the daily decisions of life even when we think that a decision to be made is insignificant. You see the LORD is interested in all the decisions that we make in life be it for marriage, for a job, or even about the home to move into. However the New Testament method for acquiring guidance is different from the Old Testament methodology.

Inquiring in the Old Testament

In the Old Testament inquiries to the LORD where made through priests. The priests had what is called an Urim and a Thummim put in the breastplate that they wore when consulting God on behalf of the people of Israel.

Put the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece, so that Aaron will carry them when he comes into my holy presence. At such times he must always wear this breastpiece, so that he can determine my will for the people of Israel. (Exodus 28:30 GNB)

Inquiring in the New Testament

In the New Testament, the bible says that Christ has made all of us priests; hence we all have something similar to an Urim and Thummim. The Urim symbolised illumination or lights while the Thummim symbolised the truth. The Holy Spirit plays these roles today. Christ said that when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13 KJVR)

How does the Holy Spirit Show us things to come

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:26-28 KJVR)

The bible says that by praying in the spirit, the one who searches the hearts (God Almighty) knows what the spirit is saying and then answers us by the same spirit who then tells us what God is thinking about the matter at hand. In the verse quoted above the Holy Spirit’s answer is that all things work out for good to them that love the LORD.

From the day I comprehended this wisdom I always have something to post on my blog because the Holy Spirit illuminates a new truth as long as I inquire through speaking in other tongues.

Book Review

May 27, 2009

When I was faced with the task of making a major decision in my life, I did not know how to prove the good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. I spent over a year praying and fasting hoping for the Lord to reveal to me my mission on earth. Beloved I did not get any satisfying answer.

One day whilst mediating on the word of God, I realized that we Christians have been given the Holy Spirit to lead us into that perfect will of God for our lives. The Children of Israel, after deliverance from slavery in Egypt, (which is a type of New Testament salvation by the blood of Christ from Satan) where constantly under the shadow of the Holy Spirit’s guidance. The Holy Ghost overshadowed them as a fire by night and as a cloud by the day, leading them to the Promised Land that flows with milk and honey.

Today, that picture of the Old Testament is more real than ever. The Holy Spirit lives within us and it is His desire is to lead us into the promised blessings of Abraham. What I discovered as I starting learning how the Holy Ghost guides us is that the Holy Ghost had actually been trying to lead me except that I would not yield because of ignorance.

BECOMING A SPIRIT LED CHRISTIAN is a book I have put together so that you will not suffer they way I did. My prayer for you is to see every iota of ignorance concerning this subject expelled from your soul forever. You shall never walk through the valley of indecision ever in your life. Questions like who to marry, which college to enroll to, which business contract to sign, which church to attend, which shares to invest in, and many more alike will be accompanied with crystal clear answers. The voice of the Holy Spirit will be so clear that you will know what to do over every situation of your life.

What excites me most about the leading of the Holy Spirit is that He only and only guides to your bliss. He is neither too early nor too late. Believe me beloved, He will not disappoint you ever. I have become completely peaceful with my life. All the moments of anxiety and discouragement have vanished into the sea of forgetfulness. I have a sound mind and I look forward to a new day zealously. This will become your experience too.

Listen to a quote from Pastor Peter Tan:

“From my years of counseling and sharing with Christians, I have found that the most frequent question asked of me is “How do I know the Will of God?” Countless thousands of sincere and hungry Christians long to know God’s perfect Will for their lives. The key to flowing into God’s perfect Will is learning to be led by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14). The leading of the Spirit consists of five inward witnesses, the voice of the human spirit and the voice of the Holy Spirit. Each of these areas can be taught and acquired. As we grow in being led by the Holy Spirit, we will grow to be truly the sheep who hear the voice of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 10:27). May God by His grace and mercy enable all of us to flow in the river of His perfect Will”.
