Spiritual Weapons of Warfare

October 23, 2009

I recently undertook a study on Spiritual Weapons of Warfare and I realized that the World Wide Web has got insufficient articles on the subject and that among the ones available most are quiet inaccurate.
This subject is the most hated by Satan and his cohorts because demons hate torment. I have not known what scares Satan to death apart from being tormented by the Blood of Christ and the Fire of the Holy Ghost. While Jesus Christ was on earth devils hated his presence because they hated torment. Read this:

“And when He had come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, two demon-possessed ones met Him, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one might pass by that way. And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with You, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”
(Matthew 8:28-29 MKJV)

To successfully overcome your opponent in any game you got to study and understand your opponent’s weakness. Hence having a good understanding of the Spiritual weapons and amour of Warfare will enable you to place the devils where the belong-trapped under your feet.

Before we study the weapons of warfare I would like you to notice before hand that there is a difference between weapons of warfare and the full armour of God.

What are the Spiritual weapons of our warfare?

A weapon is any instrument of offense; anything used or designed to be used in destroying or annoying an enemy. The weapons of rude nations are clubs, stones and bows and arrows. Modern weapons of war are swords, muskets, pistols, cannon and the alike.

The bible says that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, that is that our weapons do not consist of either rude nation’s weaponry of modern nation’s weaponry. (2 Corinthians 10:4 KJVR)

Our enemies, Satan and his cohorts are spiritual; we can neither feel them nor see them. Hence our weapons ought to be spiritual and the battle spiritual also.

I have identified 7 weapons of warfare in the bible that are readily available for us Christian to use in destroying satanic strategies.

i. The name of Jesus Christ. Read Matthew 28:18-19 and Luke 10:17-18
ii. The word of God. Read Ephesians 6:17 and Revelation 12:11
iii. The blood of Jesus. Read Revelation 12:11 and Revelation 14:10
iv. The Fire and Brimstone of the Holy Ghost. Read Revelation 14:10
v. Fasting and Prayer. Read Mark 9:29
vi. Speaking in other tongues. Read Romans 8:26
vii. Testimonies. Read Revelation 12:11

What is the full armour of God?

Armour consists of protective clothing of metal or leather worn in battle by soldiers in former times.

Again the bible says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12 KJVR). Therefore our armour cannot consist of metal or leather.

Christian armoury defines a character or state of mind that the devils will find impossible to permeate. The Apostle outlines 6 armours or states of being.

i. Truth. When you keep away lying and maintain truth in your Christianity you will be stable. No amount of rocking will displace you. However if you invite lies the devils will find you an easy target to pervade.
ii. Righteousness. Christ said, “The ruler of this world comes, and he has nothing in me.” (John 14:30 MKJV). Christ lived righteously, and so when the devil came he found nothing to hold against him.
iii. Gospel of peace. The devil fails to seep into peaceful environments. Hence the admonition, “Do everything possible on your part to live in peace with everybody. (Romans 12:18 GNB).”
iv. Faith. By faith the devil cannot deceive you by pointing at the present conditions or facts surrounding you. The just live by faith i.e. we live by the promises of God whether are manifest in our lives or not.
v. Salvation. We get saved by confessing Christ as Lord and believing that God raised him from the dead. You see Apostle Paul refers to salvation as a helmet. That is, it protects us from allowing Satan to infuse wrong doctrines of Christ or other gods. You may have noticed that most people who call themselves Christian but have not accepted him as their personal saviour have a confused concept of salvation. They even refuse to get born again.
vi. The word of God which is the sword of the Spirit. Although Apostle Paul calls the sword of the Spirit as armour, I think it’s more of a weapon than armour.

The bible says that the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart.Hebrews 4:12 GNB)

Therefore, with the word of God we can discern all demonic strategies and frustrate them even before they are implemented.

In conclusion, both the weaponry and armoury are very important. Do not take one and leave the other. Hold fast to both and you will enjoy a very victorious Christian life.

To God be the Glory. Amen.
